Abbotsford Open 10mile T.T.

Postby Scott on March 2nd, 2010, 10:09 pm

As our annual Open 10 is just over a month away I would love to hear off anyone willing to help in any way.
Steve mentioned in his post that he may enter. So if anyone in the Club wants to ride the event please send me your entry. I would also like to ask members of the Club to let me know if they could bring cakes, scones or anything for the riders to eat after the race.
The HQ is the same as last year. It is again on Easter Monday with a 4-00pm start on the same Chelford course.
This is the only event YOUR club promotes over a full 12 months, so if possible please try to help in any way you can.
Neil has tried to establish a top promotion over the last few years and I would like to try and continue in the same vein.

Hi Ian,

I am keen to ride and can also help out with the results as I did last year. Please send me the full entry list once you have it, then I can enter it into my TT results spreadsheet (TM).

Cheers,

Mark

Im going to be in Marrakech. Tis a pity as it would have been interesting to see what the recumbent would do.

I can get the missus to rattle up a few cakes/flapjack Ian but I'll have to drop off at either Neil's or John's as I can't get to actual venue on the day. Let me know.

Incidentally, for those that posted "it was nice to see a Manchester team win the League Cup" please let me know when that happened 'cos the only team I saw at Wembley winning were U****d and they certainly ain't from Manchester.

'Tis only God's team, MCFC, which can truly call itself Mancunian.

Bitterly yours

Is that a good idea Ian, isn't it a little bit like giving strawberries to a donkey, giving the cakes to Neil ?

I will try to organise my girls this year to help us with our event, and i am sure they will be making some cakes and other things that may be required.

Just to let you know, really enjoyed Wednesday, great ride , fantastic views and lovely lumps as Baz predicted, but that last lump up to Wincle was a Ba@t@rd and i mean a Ba@st@rd, but i was warned by the Diane's domestique, how he climbs in high heels i have no idea.

Get connected Jim, you know you want too!!!!!!

Did anyone take any pictures of Mally grovelling up Wincle hill? It would cheer me up after working 6 days this week and not being able to ride on what has been the best week of the year. :(

BTW how's the new guards Baz?

Some people like nothing more than kicking a bloke when he's down.

Only needed the rear guard..........some clumsy tosser broke my old one.Big guy,6 foot 3 ish, rides a nice Cervelo, dubious taste in cycling footwear. You might have seen him around.

I now have 2 un-used front guards cluttering up my garage if anybody needs one.

As we need a Result board in the HQ for all to see the times on the day, it would be very nice if the times could be projected on to a screen on the wall, which is what a lot of clubs seem to do these days. So if anyone can beg, steal or borrow a projector that will plug into a laptop I would love to hear from you. Steve has said he will draw out a result board, but it would be nice to move on if we can. I already have a screen.
We have 13 entries so far and 2 weeks to go before closing. With 2 riders posting PB's of 19 minutes it's looking good. I am still looking for marshals for Chelford T.I. So please give me a ring.

I hope most members going to our open 10 on Monday afternoon have received the start sheet. If not let me know.
Lish and Doreen are doing numbers and signing-on
Mark sorting the result
Steve on the board
Malcolm pushing-off
Christine sorting out the Kitchen for tea and cakes
Neil phoning through the times to Steve
Pete and Ian Moore at Booths Hall TI
Ged, Tony,Frank, Nigel, Barry, and Andy on Chelford TI. It really does need that many.
Neil also putting out the signs
Martin Whyard from the Wednesday Vets is the observer out on the course.

Jim Thompson Neil Rothwell Steve Stoddart and Mark Hancock are all riding the event.
Second Claim members Derek, Jack and Alex are also on the sheet, so give them a good shout.

All we need now is the weather.

It made me proud to be a member of the Abbotsford at the end of our event today. A few people thanked me for promoting the 10 but one guy came and said he thought it a very well run race for him to have ridden. Every one seemed to pull out the stops on behalf of our event. Steve made a very professional job of the result board and Mark excelled on the laptop with the result. We had plenty of members out on the course directing the riders but one guy still did three laps of Chelford TI. I would like to thank the marshals for standing there in that wind (Nigel forgot his coat). Neil tied up all the loose ends before getting on his phone to ring through the times and then collecting all the signs he had placed around the course. Back at the ranch the girls were doing a splendid job with light refreshments. Lish who did the signing on with Doreen must have felt like a million dollars when her grandson won the race with a time of 21 49 at the age of 16 after getting stopped at Chelford then doing the slowest turn at Booths Hall. Hope your back's OK after all that pushing-off Mally and once again I'm proud of everybody who helped. Thanks to you all, and anyone I've missed. Our new member Neil in his first event for five years wizzed round the course in 22 59 on his road bike. Steve and Mark not only did a stirling job at HQ but also rode the event as well. The result will appear on the CTT site shortly.

Quite agree with you Ian, fantastic day, very proud of you for organising the "10" and everyone who helped. Had a great time pushing off all the riders, and Gordon was as usual very welcoming to me and the riders, obviously done this kind of thing a lot. Thanks to Andy for helping out, although its probably his back that's hurting more than mine, he had further to bend than me being so tall.

It was also great to push off our own riders Steve looked good and Mark was really up for it, hope they got on OK, Neil (not King Neil), sorry i didn't grasp it was you when pushing you off until the last 10 seconds, well done, great ride. Good old Jim looked good, not sure he was convinced about those Aero bars, i wasn't when i rode with them for the first time, takes a bit of getting use too. However, that Skin suit he wore, who got him in that, i hope he was able to breathe on the way round , it looked very tight indeed , but very nice i overheard someone saying( only Joking) :) Baz thought you looked Fab, so that fine.

Well done all the riders today, you all have done well.

I really enjoyed watching/marshelling/pushing-off today, first time i have done it and enjoyed it more than i expected, good to see some familiar faces and Abbots riders giving their all.

The traffic was busy early on at Chelford and it was interesting watching the different styles of riding contend with with the round-about.

I will give a 10TT a blast soon on Chelford as not done one for 15years.
